Roof framing is being installed at Exeter College: Cohen Quad, Oxford, revealing the building’s roofline for the first time.
The project will form Exeter Colleges Third Quadrangle in the heart of Oxford. The new building will combine undergraduate and graduate living accommodation for 100 students, a lecture hall, teaching rooms, social learning spaces and study facilities.

‘Housing is the crisis of our time’, said Stirling Prize-winning architect Brooks at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) pre-election breakfast event last week.

The subject of the debate was “How do we make enough housing?” and focussed on the issues of the delivery of housing to respond to the ever-growing needs of the capital and the nation as a whole.
The subject of the debate was “How do we make enough housing?” and focussed on the issues of the delivery of housing to respond to the ever-growing needs of the capital and the nation as a whole.
The debate reinforced the need for the housing to be provided across the full spectrum of housing needs including private for sale and to rent, and affordable and intermediate. Alison Brooks addressed the issue from the architectural point of view, and explained the need for a broad vision in relation to the master plan and layout of new estates, and also emphasised the degree to which detailed design could reinforce the flexibility achievable in new homes where space was at a premium.

New Ideas for Housing London will provide opportunities for anyone, whether a large organisation or just one person with a big idea, to submit a proposal free of charge that could help shape the future of the capital. Winning entrants will work with the Greater London Authority to see how their ideas could be put into practice to revolutionise the London housing market.
