John Lawlor

John graduated with a Masters in Architecture from the Bartlett, University College London in 2009 and with a BSc in Architecture with First Class Honours from Queens University, Belfast in 2005. He has worked as a design tutor and lecturer in Construction Technology and Structural Design at Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok and is an RIBA Part III external examiner at Oxford Brookes University. He has an interest in pre-fabrication and the ‘making’ of architecture in the Digital Age and was shortlisted for the Built Environment Fellowship by the Royal Commission in 2017.

John joined ABA in 2013 and promoted to Associate in 2018. He is the Project Lead & Senior Project Architect for Athena, the first market housing lots of the University of Cambridge’s ambitious, North West Cambridge Development and he continues to lead the project delivery on site. John has lead ABA’s adoption of Building Information Modelling and delivered ABA’s first large-scale construction projects using BIM. He helped to secure ABA’s place on Peabody’s Major Projects Framework and was the Project Architect from feasibility to planning approval for a mixed-use development at Severn Place, Cambridge. John has also worked on Durham & Gloucester Court, part of the South Kilburn Estate Regeneration and has lectured on ABA’s work at Oxford Brookes University.

Before joining ABA, John worked for Grimshaw on the £480M Heathrow Airport Terminal 2B and a £15M new-build School Science Facility for Dulwich College. John has also worked for Arup Associates on theatre design projects in Dubai, for Heneghen Peng Architects on the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo and for Hackett and Hall in Belfast.
